Cannot Open Word Document

Hi,

Purchased a Surface 2 for Unit Study.

We have a forum where we can attach word files for others to browse.

When I click to open a file it won't let me and says that the following are unsupported?

VBA Project and ActiveX Controls.

Very confused, this doesn't seem right - hope somebody can help.

A.

Is yours a Surface Pro? If not, the Excel version included in Office RT doesn't support VBA.

No, it's not a Pro. I saved Word 2000 files on a USB and transferred them to my Surface2 and they open fine. If I can't open these word docs the tablet is completely useless to me. Really annoyed.

Office 2013 RT Home and Student does not support Active X or VBA, it is called out in the description of the device....

Thanks for the replies. Yes so it seems - it's something I naturally assumed, but It's completely useless for students in that case, when I am actually trying to access files from a university website. It serves absolutely no purpose as a mini-laptop. So frustrated.

I understand what you are saying, but I also know many students and professionals that use the Surface 2. I used a Surface 2 for a year and a RT before that as my mobile device.

The thread you're referring to is the opposite direction, opening a document created on RT on another computer.

How did you open word files that have been shared on a forum by other students?

In the link she also said vice versa.

I opened documents all the time from peers and clients. VBA enabled documents are fairly rare in most Professional Situations as they are security risk. Also people opened my documents that I created as well.

I've just googled random word docs and they all open fine it's just files that have been attached to the forum I use which is a pain. Oh well, at least I can share mine for others. Really impressed with the surface 2 otherwise. Thanks very much for your replies it is much appreciated.
