Charging while traveling

I am trying to decide whether to take my IPad Air or my Surface Pro3 on a fairly long trip. The deciding factor really is that I can bring a power charger (brick with usb ports to use to charge my Ipad/IPhone). Is there anything I can use to charge my Surface Pro 3 if I do not have an outlet handy (on a 12 hour flight).
Thanks,
Debi

Same as with the ipad, except you'd have to buy a DC power cable and battery pack capable of DC output.

I would just carry the iPad in addition to the Surface. It does much better with battery life on flights. What's the weight difference of carrying the iPad vs. the Surface plus battery pack? Leave the iPad charging brick home if you must, and charge from the usb port on the Surface's power brick (although this will be fairly slow).

SP3 only for me, if I care about weight or anything. There's nothing useful to me that I can do on my iPad that I can't do on my SP3.

However, you can get away with a much smaller/lighter battery pack if you only need power for the iPad.
