What's new

do they really need the fans?

maybe I'm an anomaly but I think I've heard the spro fans go on once and maybe a second time in the three months I've owned it. I'm not a gamer but do run statistical processing programs and use external screens, stuff that makes the spro warm but haven't felt it white hot.

I'm sure they plus the vents make the machine thicker (and perhaps a bit heavier).

I'd buy a Spro without fans. an i3 would probably be enough juice in fact.

Well, if you are running on battery power cooling is set to "passive" by default in power settings. You can change this to "active" and fans will come on more often. If it were up to me I would leave my fans on all the time as the sound does not bother me.
