Both Microsoft Surface RT and Pro lack a powerful video playback solution - Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center are not included – and thus many video formats can’t be played on the slab. Though AVI is a format that Surface claimed to support, users have reported AVI playback issues.

If you also find some AVIs not playing well on the Windows RT tablet, Pavtube Video Converter will help you out, since it converts AVI to Surface RT optimized MP4 format while downsizing the videos to make room for other media and apps.

How to convert AVI for Microsoft Surface RT/Pro playback
    1. Add AVI files to Microsoft Surface Video Converter. You can directly drag and drop the videos on your hard drive to the app. This Microsoft Surface Video Converter supports batch conversion, so you can add several files at one time. It saves your time and energy.

    2. Select Microsoft Surface RT preset from format list. In the format column, choose "Windows > Microsoft Surface Windows RT H.264 Video (*.mp4)" preset.

Tip: If there is not preset for the device, download a profile patch from here and double-click on it to install. The output video will be encoded in 16:9, which fits Surface RT tablet just right.

    3. Hit on "Convert" to start AVI to Microsoft Surface conversion on Windows 7/Vista/XP. You can go for some coffee, leaving this app do the rest for you.

    4. When conversion completes, hit on “Open” to find converted files and transfer videos to Surface RT.

Other than converting AVI to Microsoft Surface, this Surface Video Converter also lets you to edit videos a bit. You can trim a large video file into several segments to get rid of the unwanted part; you can crop the video frame size, and make it fit on your new Microsoft Surface RT more perfectly. If you are not satisfied with your video effect, you can switch to another type of video effect, say, Old Film or Gray.

The software converts MKV, MP4, AVI, VOB, MOV, M4V, MTS, etc to Microsoft Surface RT optimized MP4 video at ease as well. But it doesn’t do DVD conversion. To rip a protected DVD movie and even 1080p full HD Blu-ray discs for Surface RT, check the discounted Blu-ray Video Converter Ultimate.

Bets multi-track DVD to Surface Converter – watch DVD ISO/IFO movie on Surface (Pro) 2 with multiple languages

Description: The best solution to copy DVD IFO/ISO to Surface (Pro) 2 with multiple audio tracks so that you can free switch different languages while playback DVD movie on Surface (Pro) 2.

    What is an IFO file?

IFO files are files that store DVD information. These files are commonly referred to as DVD Info Files because IFO files contain DVD scene and timing information.
On a DVD-Video disc, there are two folders, AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. In the VIDEO_TS folder, there are many files with the extensions .IFO, .BUP and .VOB. The .IFO files are simply information files; they have no video or audio data at all. They hold information on the VOB files, which are the actual MPEG-2 Video, Dolby Digital / DTS / PCM audio files. You don't particularly play an IFO file, but if you were to open an IFO file in certain software it would play the DVD or a certain set of VOB files.

    What is an ISO file?

Think of an .iso as a container that holds all the files and folders contained on a CD/ DVD. Unlike a .zip file, an ISO is not compressed. ISO files are useful for keeping backups of CDs and DVDs and for storing the contents of CDs or DVDs on hard-drives or uploading and downloading them on the internet.

You can play MP4/DivX/XviD/WMV/H.264/H.263 videos on Surface (Pro) 2, but DVD ISO/IFO files are not supported natively. What to do if you happen to have a large DVD collection and wish to enjoy DVD IFO/ISO image files on Surface (Pro) 2 anywhere?

Don't want to loss video quality? Need to keep all the audio-tracks so that you can free switch languages while playback?

Try this Pavtube ByteCopy. (Mac users can try this ByteCopy for Mac).
