All you need to know is the number of the Intel Graphics (like 4400 or 5000) to determine its performance right? Wrong!

Even if those numbers told you the relative position of the GPU in the Intel hierarchy what does it tell you about gaming or other graphics use case performances... Nothing!

here is a ranking of most of Intel's graphics implementations under general headings of game appropriate use. Not perfect but better than nothing.

Of note: (lower rank is better) YMMV
    SP3 i7 HD Graphics 5000 - Rank 264 - Low-Mid Range - modern games at low settings playable - casual

    SP2 i5 HD Graphics 4400 - Rank 294 - Low-Mid Range - modern games at low settings playable - casual
    SP3 i5 HD Graphics 4400 - Rank 294 - Low-Mid Range - modern games at low settings playable - casual

    SP1 i5 HD Graphics 4000 - Rank 332 - Low-Mid Range - modern games at low settings playable - casual

    SP3 i3 HD Graphics 4200 - Rank 340 - Low-Mid Range - modern games at low settings playable - casual

Surface 3 HD Graphics Cherry Trail - Rank *411 - Low End - non demanding games should be playable.
    *estimated.

    YMMV

    Now for some gaming perspective:
Gigabyte Gaming Laptop vs Surface Pro 3
When people say things like the iPad Air 2 blows away this or that in reference to a benchmark score that's a little higher than the other device it's pure Hyperbole.

This on the other hand is an example of blowing something away:

    Test . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Gigabyte P35X . . . . . . . Surface Pro3
    3DMark Fire Strike . . . . . . 8202 . . . . . . . . . . . 642 -92%
    3DMark Cloud Gate . . . . . 20145 . . . . . . . . . . . 4130 -80%
    3DMark Ice Storm . . . . . 133,476 . . . . . . . . . . 42,129 -68% . . . . . . . iPad Air 2: 21651 -84%

If you want to game on a tablet it's your prerogative but don't whine about it.
The gaming laptop will eviscerate any tablet for a long time to come, like forever.
Just get a gaming laptop if you have to game :)
