Kindle error: Amazon.com full site

    I have a year-old MS Surface, and have used it in part as a Kindle reader. I have downloaded many books this way and often use this when I'm traveling. But in the last week or two, I've been getting a strange error message when I try to buy a book:

    "You are now at the Amazon.com full site. When your order is complete return to the Kindle Store."

    There is nothing else on the screen which is grey, white, and black. The download never finishes and I've been unable to get any new books. This is true across multiple books/authors. I can still read books I bought before. The preview feature (where you read a few pages) is also not working, but used to work just fine.

    I wonder if an update came through that affected Surface's ability to work with Kindle?

    Any help would be appreciated.
