Manually install keyboard cover drivers

On my surface pro 3 My Keyboard cover stopped working (no lights, nothing)

I tried the 2 key reset. Nothing
I removed the drivers in the device manager. Nothing
I have restored windows 10 (and keeping my files). Nothing
I have swapped the keyboard with a surface pro 4. My keyboard works fine on the SP4, but the SP4 keyboard does not work on my.

The Surface cover drivers will not automatically re-install. Is there a way to manually install them ?

Failing that I must assume it is a hardware fault on my SP3. But it is wierd, that after an update it stopped working and the device hasn't been knocked or anything.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome. I'm probably patronizing you here, but have you checked to see if the contacts on the surface are clean of any gunk?

Yes. There was no visible gunk. I have used an alcohol wipe and an eraser to clean contacts on both the keyboard and the tablet .
