The summary of the story from the site is quoted below; the underlined and bolded is my addition:

"Microsoft's bid to buy Nokia came late on Monday. Despite rumors to that effect over the past year since Nokia's financial troubles began, few expected the deal to go ahead quite like this. We explore what's going down, with whom, and when."

And here's a bit of older news:

    http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57453825-94/nokias-debt-downgraded-to-junk-status/

After a billion dollar write off last year by MS, it seems strange to me that MS would buy a manufacturing company that is in financial difficulties. Apple and Samsung are two Goliaths which MS will need to take on to be successful. We'll see...it should be interesting.
