Everyone getting this extra storage thinks it's a good deal... well obviously you use up the space and then Microsoft charge you to keep your stuff.

Horrible tactic really. I'd rather have an extra 3Gb that lasted forever than 100Gb that runs out.

It's a good deal for those who would have had to purchase it otherwise. I understand what you're staying, for sure it's a strategy for MS to make money in the end, but it's no different than any other free subscription you can get anywhere else. It lasts for a little bit, then you have to pay up if you want to continue using it. Cable companies do the same here...$25/month for 12-months, then pay $80 for the rest of your life.

Precisely my situation. Was paying 4.99 a month for 100 GDrive storage. Now making a substantial saving after transferring all my data (took a while but pretty painless)

...200GB for 2 years makes it particularly attractive :)

General OneDrive question here... can you set up auto backing up of documents and especially pictures? (specifically just with certain folders)

I use OneDrive as it is but tbh I've never looked into any advance features. I only started using it because it was built into my Surface and there it was!

Anybody run into any censoring issues with Onedrive yet? I remember reading a while back they autonomously scan through all your files and if anything is found suspect for whatever reason, they lock your account until the issue is addressed...

I'm reluctant to use the service due to concerns of being locked out of all my files at the worst possible time, ie meeting with client, trying to access a quote or contract I've got saved in the cloud, only to find my account is blocked because of a random vacation pic.

Curious if this ever pops up, never used cloud storage before but love the idea.

The deal with OneDrive is you can forget having to schedule backups of your documents, pictures, etc. Everything you store in OneDrive is automatically synced (pretty much reali-time unless you change the settings) when you make changes. I stopped backing up my files (other than periodic external drive backups) because OneDrive works so well doing this. When I have my Surface Pro's replaced for any reason, I just sync back up my OneDrive and everything is magically back over the next hour or so. Settings, apps, wallpaper, etc. and more importantly all my documents.

Also - there is version control with OneDrive so if you did something you didn't intend, you can go get a previous copy out of your OneDrive. Cool stuff. They have taken away a lot of the advanced options I would think because it works best the way it's setup now. I make a drop a file on my OneDrive at work, and at home pick up my Pro and continue working on it. Don't need to tell it to download or anything - it just Syncs Up.

Never had the issue, but I don't store anything that would be considered adult material in OneDrive. I think in the terms of service (at least it used to be) wording in there saying they pretty much don't allow porn - so if you were a professional photographer that happened to take nude pics as a career - too bad. I can't say how much of an impact this has had for most people, but I doubt it's many. Sounds like you have a lot of work stuff in there, and just a guess girls with bikini tops mixed in for vacation pics - don't think that will be a problem. Sounds like they are specifically censoring adult material.

Funnily enough I just had an email today saying I've got 3Gb extra storage space on OneDrive now because I selected to automatically back up my images...

I'm certain I didn't select this lol seeing as though I didn't even know about it, still, pretty happy with that! Thing is I need to be selective because I had iCloud doing this with my iPhone but I soon hit the 5Gb limit, then I found it frustrating that it would longer worked, so I deleted the whole thing.

If you recently set that up on a phone that could be it. Installing OneDrive/Skydrive on a mobile device there is a camera backup option that's enabled by default I think.

I added OneDrive to my iPhone last September and haven't touched it much since! It's actually not automatically backing up, even though it says it should be. It doesn't matter, but what I do want is auto backing up of my Surface picture folder...

I got this notification as well today after an update to the Skydrive now OneDrive app on my android device.... 3GB free if I allow photo backups.

I declined because of my previously mentioned concern with random account lockouts due to "questionable" issues the Microsoft's PhotoDNA might have with what it automatically sucks off my phone. Not worth losing access to all my work files because I snapped one of my kids in a pool or a had a girl I didn't know existed in the background on a beach topless in one of my pics. Probably just me, I'm just not happy with PhotoDNA saving and going through everything I see fit to photograph ha.
