Mini displayport adapters that WORK

Cable Matters MDP to HDMI/DVI/VGA - had a loose connection so would work if Surface was lying down but not when standing with kickstand. Could have simply been a faulty cable. This would have been a great option since it is HDMI and VGA.

StarTech MDP to HDMI - small, black, very snug, can jiggle and pull with no problems. Can move surface all around.

No Name MDP to HDMI/DVI/DP - white, snug, can jiggle and pull with no problems. Can move surface all around. Seems light compared to the startech. Works but wish the 3 way included VGA.

So far, I recommend the StarTech brand because it is small, black, and seems snug and durable. I have their drive enclosures too and they are good. Good support, too - sent me screws once. I will try the StarTech MDP to VGA adapter, too, and will update. Feel free to post your own experiences. Would be great to hear the Cable Matters 3-way adapter was just a dud.

I've got a couple of these adapters on the way so will report on how they perform. Currently using a USB display widget to connect SP3 to DVI monitor and that works fine obviously although resolution is lower than expected on external monitor...

I ended up buying two different ones as I mistakenly bought one with a full DP instead of VGA and it was going to cost more to send back (plus the hassle). That is a Akord MiniDP to HDMI/DVI/DP from Amazon. The other is a Patuoxun miniDP to HDMI/ DVI/ VGA also from Amazon.

Both the adapters feel well built, sit snugly in the connector and work fine on HDMI. I don't have a DVI cable to test that. VGA works fine on the Patuoxun.

My current desktop solution is a Plugable USB2.0 Universal Dock which uses the USB to extend the display. Useful for home/ office but I wanted a smaller option for travel.

I use mine directly plugged into the SP3 so that I don't have to buy a dock, or to use for giving presentations.
