Hi all

I have recently bought a Surface Pro 2 which I am very pleased with.
Not sure if this should be answered here or in the Windows section.
How do I delete PDF files it is saying it is being used in another program so will not delete!!!
Can you help or direct me somewhere!!
thank you
Mick

Welcome to the forum

Normally, the only reason that would happen is if some program did in fact not fully release the PDF file that last time it was opened. Have you tried restarting your Surface and trying again?

open the pdf, drag from the top to the bottom of the screen and hold it for a couple seconds, until the pdf changes to the pdf reader icon, and then release it. the file is now closed. now try to delete it. you can also close the app with task manager.

Garyjk is correct.
In Windows 8.x when you close a Windows 8 App (and this applies to ONLY Windows 8 Apps, not desktop apps), it doesn't actually close it. It stays in memory (however, Windows will close it, if you need the memory automatically).
Basically, it works like tablets and phones.

To learn about why, and how it works, head over to Microsoft Channel9 Defrag Tools episode 59, at 22m 37sec.
