I think your ability to connect will be highly dependent on the firmware loaded in your television. I have a Samsung 8550 UHD television and for a long time couldn't connect via Miracast (under the screen mirroring function within the TV's menu). I updated the Samsung firmware this morning, and Miracast suddenly worked. However, for some reason I only get 1050 vertical lines of resolution.

Hi,

is anyone able to connect the Surface Pro 3 with a Samsung TV via Miracast / Wi-Fi Direct?

I'm trying to connect a Samsung UHD HU6900 without any luck.
I'm trying to connect the TV as Wireless Display. Windows finds the TV, but connecting fails.

I have a Samsung 8500 UHD and it does connect after a bit of tinkering. As I noted above, this only started working recently, after I updated the firmware in the television. Sometimes my devices forget one another, and I have to reconfigure. This, in addition to input lag, has caused me not to use Miracast that often.
