- Single DVI support a maximum resolution of 1920x1200 @ 60Hz
- Dual Link DVI support a maximum resolution of 2560x1600 @ 60Hz OR 1920x1080 @ 144Hz
- HDMI 1.3 supports a maximum resolution of 1920x1200 @ 60Hz
- HDMI 1.4 supports a maximum resolution of 4K but only @ 30Hz

All of the above are with 8-bit colors per channels.

Now Display Port 1.2, crushes everything, with it's daisy chaining ability, following this table:

And the max resolution it can do is: 4K @ 60Hz @ 10-bit colors (~1.07 billion colors)
And the DislayPort group is targeting Display Port 2.0 to be 8K ready at 60Hz @ 10-bit colors

Of course, for 10-bit support, you need your graphic card that support it (so AMD FirePro or Nvidia Quadro cards), supported software, and of course content.
Unlike HDMI, DisplayPort is royalty fees, making device and cables cheaper, making us, the consumer, win big. Also DisplayPort carries, like DVI, error correcting bits to ensure the best visuals.

Now all we need is DisplayPort on TV's, and all that HDMI crap can be binned. I mean if it was good, that would be a different story, but it's not. It's Sony's attempt to get an encryption system on a digital connector, as DVI group refused. Sony believed that it would eliminate piracy once and for all (yea, we saw how that worked out... not even a dent), so its got the movie industry support, of course, and essentially said that anyone that invest and support the medium will get the connector at a low royalty fee, even free. That is how they got the TV market.
