Surface Pro 3 pen Random Inking

I have had the same issue since I got my SP3, which is a launch-day unit. It may have to do with the digitizer built into the screen, as mine has the issue in the exact same spot as demonstrated in the video above. I take notes during class holding the SP3 vertically, and I often find that I will be unable to write in that area or it will write 3-4 inches lower than where I am touching.

However, I am wondering if this could be a software issue. I believe that I have found, through practice, that this is a result of the palm rejection becoming confused as the area where the pen should be drawing.

Essentially, you can keep picking the pen up and trying to write again, but as long as your palm is still resting on the screen it will still write in the incorrect location. If you pick up your palm, it should write correctly.

Thus, any time this happens to me I just pick up my palm quickly and it begins to write correctly again.
This is a very good piece of information.

I tried this and the pen still stops working/pen cursor (the dot) is a couple inches below intended spot.
For those of you who arent experiencing this problem, this doesn't happen every time I write but it still happens too frequently for me not to be bothered by it.
To me is not normal. I would exchange it.

This is exactly what i am facing and what i have observed! I also believe that the problem lies within the palm rejection and digitizer as I have another back up pen from microsoft as a replacement for the worn up tip and the same problem still occurs when i using that replacement pen. Anyway really good to know that I am not the only one that face this problem.

hi guys i think this problem is really a device defect and I have already did the replacement with microsoft so far so good :)

The replacement SP3 has been working pretty well up until about a week ago when it started to "jump" again. Its not nearly as frequent as before but it still happens. I think it usually happens when I am trying to write near the bottom have of the screen when my palm is resting near the bottom bezel. I'll probably just keep this SP3 but I wish that it just wouldn't happen at all.
