I have been waiting, and eyeballing the surface book 2.

Originally I was going for the 13' 16G 512G option, but then, I keep seeing articles and even official website say the 15' is VR-ready, which means the 13' is not?

Is it really true so I have to buy 15'? It's a lot heavier than the 13', and of course more expensive...

Thanks.

How about VR development?

We are developing MR games with Hololens, and we trying to do with VR as well, so even we can use Unity 3D to develop on 13' inch, still, when we try to test(play), we can't, due to hardware limitations on 1050?

That would be dumb, because Hololens only has 2G system RAM, not even the GPU RAM, not to mention the CPU horsepower

There is an official guideline, with PC compatibility check app.

So the guideline clearly says, even for Ultra requirements, 1050 still works

NVIDIA GTX 960/1050 (or greater) DX12-capable

And even for development PC, it still meets:

Sounds like it might just be a marketing trick to get people to buy the more expensive model. After all, have they officially stated the 13" model doesn't work?

The SB2 13" should work for your use case but the push to 15" is buried in the notes of the requirements -

Notes:

  • Larger laptops (with screens of at least 15”) perform best.
  • Hybrid graphics configurations are compatible only with a Windows Mixed Reality Ultra setup. The hybrid system’s discrete card must meet the same specifications listed for Windows Mixed Reality Ultra above.

Also it looks like Steam is now recommending the 1070 or above -

System Requirements

  • Minimum:
    • OS: Windows 10 Fall Creators Update
    • Processor: Intel Core i7
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: Nvidia GTX 1070
    • DirectX: Version 11

  • Recommended:
    • OS: Windows 10 Insiders Fast
    • Processor: Intel Core i7
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: Nvidia GTX 1070
    • DirectX: Version 11

Yes, I agree it will work better on 15 inch.

I ordered the 13' 16G 512G a couple of hours ago.

Excited to get my hands on, will post review shortly;)
