Okay, maybe I'm just insane, or maybe something changed. I put my SP4 back on Insider builds this morning, and installed 14342 (the latest Insider build). Now, I notice that my webcam light is turning on along with the infrared camera when Windows Hello is logging in.

I don't remember that happening before. Is this happening to anyone else? Has this always happened and I just noticed it for the first time?

My SP4 is stock and has done that as far as I know from the beginning. Unless I'm missing something.

Huh. So your white webcam light comes on when Windows Hello is unlocking it (not the red infrared camera)?

That's what I suspected. Weird then.

This is now expected behavior from what I've read. It now uses the Infrared AND regular cam for added security. :)

Interesting. I'll have to search that up to see exactly what they're doing.

Oh, and for what it's worth, it's interesting that the privacy info for Windows Hello has always indicated the webcam will be utilized. So I guess it's something they just managed to implement in the later builds that they intended on using all along.
