Moderncat: Your original post said you didn't want to spend a lot of money (was same reason I never bought the surface when they came out)...but when the original surface rt came on sale a couple weeks back at $199 I figured "why not"...Now that sale has ended, why I suggest you try your local...
It's to bad you didn't ask this question a couple weeks back...Microsoft had the Surface RT "1" (on sale for $199)...I bought one,and after upgrading to rt 8.1 it's really a great tablet! The fact it has office home and student is a added bonus. I have used android and lots of ipad tablets,and...
Thanks for info...did the uninstall of office (about 500mb saved space)...then did a clean reset and office all back.
ps: just a note: a clean install of rt 8.1 plus updates =7.22gb 19.1gb free (32 g model)
I never use office and found where I could uninstall it (prog files \ common files \microsoft shared\office15\office setup controller\setup.exe-as admin-) brings up box asking if I want to remove program...
My question is: If I remove office, can I do a "reset" to bring back default install...
yes talking about first gen surface rt.
with default rt 8.0 and external monitors everything looks great
after upgrading to 8.1 on external monitor colors look like crap, like external monitor is only using 256 color
Na...already had enough fun (read my post about 8.1 and external video color issue)...ill stick to 8.0 until someone who had done the upgrade to 8.1 can confirm there having no color issues using a external monitor (colors acting more like 256 then true colors).
-did you try using a recouvery usb stick you made when you had 8.0?
-when asked did you say to repartition drive?
-another option might be to use the image of 8.0 microsoft put out for when people had issues upgrading to 8.1.
Download Surface RT Recovery Image (Windows RT 8.0) - North America...
Was not the adapter..as bought ms one and did same thing....after talking to ms tech for well over a hour we both believe it had to do with updating to 8.1 and using external monitor....as once you upgrade to 8.1 the recovery partition also upgrades to 8.1 (this has been confirmed) even doing a...
-I wonder if you could go back to 8.0 using recovery usb stick as with updated firmware as part of 8.1 maybe it wouldn't work? (I'm to chicken to find out)
-As far as putting either 8 or 8.1 onto a dvd I don't really see why not....as when you boot using - vol and power button routine your then...
I'm not sure this is correct.
-today I just got my surface rt (thxs ms for sales price of $199)
-after charging up and doing all the updates I made a usb recovery stick 3.44gb in size used space
-I then went to MS store and did the 8.1 RT update, and right away made another usb recovery stick...
