Well, looks like I now have one of these.

I was gifted a SP2 and Office 2013 for Valentine's Day, which...sort of thwarts my plan to build a $2000 replacement gaming rig and continue using my S2. I really like my "satellite" setup, but I can adapt. Probably (assuming my older games run on the SP2 with Win8). So I've been scratching my...

Upgrade path from Surface RT/2 (Windows 10/Mobile)

I remembered another selling point, something I paid attention to during my imported subnotebook days: no fan. Having a quiet device with no fan is a big selling point for me, but I don't know of any Windows 8.x tablet that's fanless and does not run the risk of overheating (was there a Sony...

Upgrade path from Surface RT/2 (Windows 10/Mobile)

Now, Windows RT and Windows Phone paths both are essentially evolving into Windows 10 Mobile, which throws the Surface tablet upgrade path a bit out of whack when we look at available information.... (I don't know what the edit window is for this forum, so someone correct me on anything and I'll...

DisARMed: Microsoft kills Windows RT - Surface 2 - What went wrong

    Wait, wait, the life cycle support dates (mainstream) look wrong. http://support2.microsoft.com/lifecycle/search/default.aspx?sort=PN&alpha=surface&Filter=FilterNO Surface 2 = 4/10/2018 Surface 2 (4G) = 10/9/2018 Surface RT = 4/11/2017

DisARMed: Microsoft kills Windows RT - Surface 2 - What went wrong

Yeah, I'm not going under 10 inches for a usable tablet. I had written my own reasoning for the Surface RT market problems, but don't intend on updating until we get a clearer picture of what we'll get from Win10 and maybe universal apps. The whole line had too many meta problems, though the...

    Our Surface 2's future?

That's the thing, no one buys a device NOW thinking "well, if it can't run the next major OS version, it's crap." That's not how it works. I still expect "some" Win10 updates to make it onto existing RT units, but they're still functional for the appropriate audience now anyway and better than...

    Our Surface 2's future?

I don't want to move away from the original form factor either. But MS still has to clarify what it intends to do with Win10 and Office-related updates to the RT line. I see articles on one side screaming "MICROSOFT IS TOTALLY ABANDONING WINDOWS RT HA HA" and then (the MS blog or the Win10...

    Microsoft's Surface tablets won't get Windows 10

Good points. MS screwed up the naming scheme entirely, and "RT" really wasn't helpful at all. One point of limbo is the new Office (does it have a real name? I've only seen "touch-enabled Office" or "universal Office" apps, neither of which are great): Free for 8-inch and under Win10 mobile...

    Our Surface 2's future?

It's all about buzz, so I'm not trusting the media interpretations on this since they helped screw up the first generation releases too. To this day, people insist that Windows RT is a "stripped down" version of Windows 8 when talking device comparisons when from the beginning it should have...

    Microsoft's Surface tablets won't get Windows 10

I don't think anyone in their right minds would have expected full-on "Windows 10" on the RT tablets. The real question is what features will make it onto the old gens. Will the ARM hardware be completely abandoned now? I haven't followed Intel chip development for mobile these days.

Windows 10 Briefing Part 1: Free for Windows 8 and Windows 7 Users

There's misunderstanding about the sub-based thing in the OP. The upgrade is free to 7/8 users for the first year that 10 is available, and then if you didn't take that promotional offer in the first year, you have to pay. It's not "upgrade, then pay after a year." I believe this was cleared up...

Microsoft's Windows 10 Briefing is Tomorrow; Might Include a Hardware Announcement

Well, I'm more intrigued than I thought I'd be by the stuff coming from this event. As for new Surface devices, in the Q&A after the event, apparently Satya Nadella/Joe Belfiore said they're working on an update for Surface RT devices. Don't know what that means and coming from a 2nd source...

Microsoft's Windows 10 Briefing is Tomorrow; Might Include a Hardware Announcement

I'll just keep the Win10 Twitter hashtag on my phone since I can't stream it. (Oh hey, Twitter is actually useful for something.) https://twitter.com/hashtag/windows10?f=realtime&src=hash

Microsoft's Windows 10 Briefing is Tomorrow; Might Include a Hardware Announcement

And I'm wishing for identical backwards-compatible form factor. An RT device shouldn't be 12-whatever inches, IMO. I'd like to be able to keep using my keyboard and save some cash, too.

OK, who's watching this... I can't so please report. :) Maybe I'll keep a Twitter feed up.
