I think this issue with the paint peeling / flaking off is why Microsoft has opted not to paint the new Surface 2. Personally I think it looks better painted black.

Well I went both places. I went to best buy first, talked to the manager and they would only exchange it if I bought a service plan which would cost me over $100 ... I said screw that and went to the Microsoft store. In less than 5 minutes I was walking out with a brand new surface.

Well I found my receipt. I purchased this on May 17th this year. 5 months old.. unbelievable I will be taking this in person to best buy today to see if they can do anything about it. And after that I will take it in person to the Microsoft store. I hope something can be done about this...

Its 'cosmetic' It still works ok ... I've never had such a lousy peice of hardware. My 3 year old Fujitsu laptop looks better than my surface.

Even after emailing the pictures to them they would still not exchange it...

Well I contacted support... they will not exchange it for that... this is total bs... microsoft just lost another customer

The huge layer of paint on the underside of the kickstand peeled off and it never even gets touched there! I bought this at best buy. Do you think I can take this to the Microsoft Store for an exchange ?

I have babied this thing... never dropped it or anything. It looks like its been through hell and treated like trash... nothing could be further from the truth which makes me so upset.

Thanks Falcon... I will try to get in touch with someone from Microsoft. I have no idea how to get the process started. I still have 5-6 months left on my warranty. Part of me wishes I bought an Ipad instead.

I have owned the Surface RT for about half a year and the paint has gradually been peeling off on the edges. It has gotten to the point where I no longer wish to be seen with it in public because it looks terrible. Whatever happened to quality control? I hope its not too late to get a refund...
