I essentially followed this to get it to work. How to use PS3 Controller on Windows 7 and Windows 8 - Windows 7 - WinMatrix

Regrettably, returning my second Surface Pro ...

I had to return my first Surface Pro due to it having a clump, maybe 10 in total, of dead pixels in the center of the screen. Unbelievably annoying, obviously. I was able to get my hands on another one a few days later, but I will be returning this one as well. I can understand some...

Games on the Pro - Please post experiences here.

I can confirm that ePSXe and several PS1 games work without a hitch. I created the ISO from the original games to test, and so far Metal Gear and Vagrant Story play great on it. I have the PS3 controller setup via Bluetooth. I have installed the newest version of PCSX as well, but I have to...

Finally got the Pro ... but

Well, I was able to find another one on my way to Kingston this morning, and they had some TypeCovers in stock as well, so I picked one up. This display seems to be free of defects, and the MSD slot actually works as well. The other one had a spring broken so the card would not come back out...

Surface Pro has VERY good battery life - around 6 hours for me.

I'm all for optimism, but there is no way in hell that you are getting close to six hours of continuous use at factory settings. You would be the only person, ever. I can see if you turned all wireless off, and brightness down to minimum, but even then six is a stretch.

Finally got the Pro ... but

So after not wanting to wait for a 128gb model to replenish, I decided to get the smaller version with a large MSD card. So far, I love it. This is coming from someone who has used nothing but iPad since it's release. Now, unfortunately, that is where the praise ends. I have a clump of dead...

And we wonder why reviews are so bad . . .

In 1982 I was a mere tadpole living in the testicular region of my dads family jewels, so I can't say that I am in a completely different boat from the "Editor", but I understand completely what you mean. The times, they are a changing. If there is even one small thing to complain about...

    mSATA upgrade

D800 is a great camera, as is the little J1. I have been super impressed with that little 1" sensor, when shooting under ISO800 especially.

    mSATA upgrade

I have one Nikon left, I actually worked for Nikon USA for six years, but recently relocated back to Canada. Right now I shoot with a Sony A99, and I have a Sony NEX-6 which I use all of my vintage Nikon AI-S and E-Series lenses on with an adapter. What are you shooting with, Arnold?

    mSATA upgrade

Correct, upgrading memory is not going to be possible. But with some finesse, patience and steady hands the hard drive will certainly be possible. I found out that the power consumption for the current drive and the new SSD I am considering are nearly identical under regular load. I am a...

Games on the Pro - Please post experiences here.

My only concern with Skyrim is the usage of memory and the HD4000 GPU. It's more than capable, but the systems that I have run it on have all had fast memory and at least 8GBs of it. If 1024MB of the memory are being used for the GPU, I would be worried about stability. I'm sure Skyrim...

    mSATA upgrade

In short, yes, I do. In all my years of repairing iPhones, iPads, MacBook Airs, radios, DVD players ......... whatever, I have very rarely broke anything. If I did, it was usually due to the lack of patience. Which, with a device like the Surface Pro, I will be taking my sweet time with. I...

Portable battery pack for the Surface Pro?

"One of the multiple Microsoft engineers on the AMA, which was led by Surface general manager Panos Panay, replied that such an accessory would only be possible if the magnetic accessory connector was designed to transfer high current between the peripheral and tablet's battery. Then he wrote...

    mSATA upgrade

Thats a very good question, Arnold. I am having trouble finding out the consumption level for the drive I'm considering. I am looking at the ADATA XPG SX300 256GB mSATA drive (550/505 read write), and it states ultra low consumption level. I know that it uses the LSI SandForce SF-2281...

    Antivirus for Surface Pro

Microsoft Security Essentials. Effective and light weight. And most importantly, free! In my 25 years of using PCs I have NEVER gotten a virus, not even a runny nose. More often than not, I feel like there are certain people that will never have enough software or smarts to avoid getting viruses.

    mSATA upgrade

Aside from the obvious warranty void upon doing such an upgrade, can anyone see any issues with removing the current Micron 64GB mSATA drive that is in the Surface Pro and upgrading it to an ADATA 256GB 500/500 drive?

Bricked Surface Pro on Day 1 - HELP

I can't stress enough that the VERY first thing you should do when you have a new machine is to create a backup/install for the machine. Corrupt installations can happen.

    Hello from Canada!

Well, if I wanted my marriage to survive, I HAD to sell it. :) The other option was the to keep it, I chose the former. We will see whether that was a smart decision soon.

    Hello from Canada!

Hello all, I am a soon-to-be new Surface Pro owner. Not unlike many I'm sure, I am just waiting on the 128GB to come back into stock. Coming from a hacking background, supported with strong hardware knowledge, both PC and Mac. In fact, I just sold nearly all of my Apple product, and I...
