Thank you for that, I will give that a try. I see where the Realtek driver is and looks like I can just uninstall it from the device manager. I am not sure how to then install the generic Microsoft driver, 10.0.10240.16384. Did a search for it on my c drive and did not see it.

I am in windows 10, I do not see chkdsk, tried it from the run menu. if I look in disk management it shows as healthy

I have sent him an email requesting the password. Just wondering if there is another way to just wipe everything and go back to factory settings. I tried holding down the shift key and restarting, but I did not see the option to restore as new in the menus available after it restarted.

I received the Surface, it already has Windows 10 on it. The problem I have now is i need the password from the guy I bought it from to log onto Windows. I do not see a way to restore the surface to it's original factory setting
