    Thanks Semi. I seem to have fixed it by reinstalling Chrome. Microsoft support said it was a CODEC issue; and for some reason plugging the external speakers into the dock triggered the problem. I must have been mistake about seeing the problem in Edge. I think this can be marked solved.

    Solved Sound issue

    I can now recreate this issue reliably. If I plug any speaker or headset into the audio socket on the dock, it corrupts the sound. It stays corrupted after unplugging the speaker or headset. Still no fix though.
