Advice on getting 5.1 sound output from SP3/dock

Hi everyone, I have just purchased a new sound bar - Philips htl9100, and was hoping to connect my SP3 and dock to it so that I get surround sound rather than stereo. I have never owned 5.1 speakers before so I'm not sure what I have to do. My understanding is I either have to get a USB-coaxial connector to connect with the speaker's coaxial? Or would I need some sort of av receiver for this? Finally, the speaker has Bluetooth, could I possibly just go via Bluetooth for this?

All suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks I'm advance.

Lum,
If you are using a TV with HDMI, just use a mini-Displayport->HDMI adapter and have the TV passthrough go to the soundbar. Hooking up a mini-displayport adapter->HDMI without a TV might work too.

If that doesn't work, then you'll need an adapter to provide SPDIF digital audio output from the Surface. Something like this ought to work:

You probably want one that does AC3/DTS format, but check the manual for your soundbar to see what formats it works with. Check your manual about the Bluetooth too. Some of these speaker sets only use Bluetooth to make the subwoofer wireless and don't actually connect to the source via Bluetooth. *confusing*
