Background Video Recording Performance vs Camera App

Hi all,

I'm trying to use Debut video capture software (http://www.nchsoftware.com/capture/) on my Surface 3 to enable video recording in the background (i.e. for meetings, lectures, etc). The problem I'm running into is performance; while the Microsoft (Metro) camera app records beautiful full-framerate video, Debut stutters horribly, ending up in the vicinity of 8fps. This probably has to do with not being able to encode the video in realtime (aka tons of dropped frames), but I'm not sure about the solution. If I examine the recorded videos with GSpot Codec Information Appliance, I get:

From Metro App: http://screencast.com/t/ztHktTVr7J
From Debut: http://screencast.com/t/Ydc61oYCfrV

They both seem to show H.264/mpeg-4 AVC. Debut offers some encoding options (http://screencast.com/t/Xo765ulPP), but as H264 is what the Metro app outputs (and is also the default), it seemed the most logical.

Any idea how I can get Debut to record with equivalent quality/framerate to the MS app - or if not, alternative recommendations for background recording?

(Note: I know I could use side-by-side mode to record with the metro app while using desktop software, but that's not really what I'm after. Besides the fact that I find the video there a bit distracting, proper applications offer many useful features - i.e. timestamp overlay on the video, quick hotkey starting/stopping, etc).

Thanks in advance :)
