Bluetooth-related sound problem

I paired a Bluetooth speaker to my Surface RT and successfully played songs with the Music App. Later, while the Bluetooth device was not connected, I played a uTube video but had no sound on the Surface. I discovered that I could restore sound on the Surface by turning off Bluetooth. Is this a glitch? Is it really necessary to go into settings and turn off Bluetooth in order to redirect sound? Is there some simpler way for me to redirect sound to the built-in speakers if the Surface does not do so automatically?

Another workaround is to go to Sound in the Control Panel and change the default device back and forth between the Bluetooth speakers and the built-in speakers. But why doesn't the Surface detect and switch automatically when the Bluetooth apeaker is turned off, as do other devices?
