Can I connect my sp3 to my desktop computer via usb to do file transfers? If no, what do people recommend, assuming lan is not an option and drop box is too slow. A microsd card + reader?

If LAN is not an option you will have to use an usb data transfer cable like the one ctitanic linked to, or a crossover cable, although you’ll need a LAN adapter along with it for SP3.

The only other usb method would be to transfer data using a flash drive, which can be tedious and time-consuming depending on the size and number of files.

I just keep everything I need on OneDrive....

But, otherwise use a USB Drive or Home Network...

Perhaps you should describe what you really want to do. its it a one time thing or weekly/daily task? Do you want to keep folders synchronized between the two? sometimes just asking a how to question doesn't allow for solutions you didn't consider or even think possible.

It's daily syncing of certain files with my work desktop computer. Can't use DropBox or one drive because work doesn't allow them. So some sort of physical connection would be best. I guess I could connect to my work vpn and just upload/download the files, so not the end of the world if direct USB is not a viable option.

Have you looked into OneDrive for Business? If your work has Office365 with SharePoint Online it is available and if you have SharePoint 2013 On Perm its at http://my or https://my

With Office365 you get a TB and it meets HIPA, EU and US Financial Regs and is approved by most Courts....
