Dropping Wireless Display with Surface Pen Click

I am using my surface 3 along with the Microsoft wireless display adapter and the Microsoft Surface Pen.
I can simply and reliably connect to the wireless display adapter and the connection is good and stable for as long as I am using it....until I press the surface pen top button.
I have disconnected the pen and re-paired it and the problem is solved, until the next time I use the surface. When I start up, connect the wireless display adapter and start using the pen, all is fine until I click the surface pen top button and once again the wireless display disconnects. I am using the top button to open onenote 2013 and using the double click to take screen clippings, and I want to continue to use the pen, but I don't want to have to disconnect and then re-pair the pen every time I use the wireless display adapter.

Any ideas? I haven't seen this issue discussed elsewhere.

Does your router support 5GHz? It sounds like you're experiencing contention on 2.4GHz.
