Is there anyway to "Boost Mic Gain"????

All of my previous sound devices on PC's had both a Mic Level and a Boost Gain setting. My new Surface book only has a Mic Level. Am I missing something? Are there any plans to return a Mic Boost setting in a future driver update? Is "Boost Gain" a figment of my imagination?

I'd appreciate any information available.
