They don't use traditional storage... it is all XML Data. With that said, you import DRM Free ePubs and PDFs within the Nook App. Kindle doesn't allow side loading with their Windows 8 App. If you are using a Pro or Pro 2 you can install the x86 Kindle App and that does support sire loading .mobi files
