So the Surface RT is seriously telling me that it won't support the resolution of my television so I can't watch movies on it? Very disgruntled! Help someone!

Reply for Silly HDMI problem.
this from MR.NK "I'm using a Sony-TV too and the picture was 1080p and of a normal quality. Did you use the mirror-setup? You have to go for extended or only second-screen setup, so the surface can change the resolution for your TV up to 1080p."
when using mirror monitors the 2nd monitor will be locked to the same resollution of the pad.

My television is not 1080p, it's 720p. That's not excuse for it not working on the lower resolution tv.

If your TV is true 720p it won't be able to open Modern UI Apps due to the 720 refers to 720 Horizontal Pixels and you need a minimum of 768 Horizontal Pixels to support the UI. Some 720p are actually 1366x768 some other support 1024x768, but if you're stuck at 1280x720 it won't work...

If that is true, it's a shocking omission of functionality and very big minus on the device. For some this will be a deal breaker. Thanks for the info though. I will be taking it into a video.

I believe that is the case and knowing that ahead of time it just has to be accepted. I think the resolutions requirements MS makes are ridiculous (including WP) and one of the biggest flaws in their new approach. I understand why they do it but in this regard they are closer to Android than Apple and should use the Android approach instead of the Apple approach (my way or the highway). At the end of the day MS is going to do what they are going to do and all we can do is be aware of the resolution limitations and accept them.

Since it's very possible that you might not want the screen to rotate into portrait mode, this video shows you how to disable it.
