Mirroring from iPhone

I have just acquired a Surface 2. I want to mirror video etc from my iPhone in a situation where there is no wifi. Can I do this using a USB connection? Do I need to install special software on my Surface, or does Microsoft provide the necessary tools? If I need to download software, what is recommended?

I think you can setup a local ad-hoc WiFi network and then use one of the AirPlay window server apps to do this - something like LonelyScreen. Can't say I've ever tried it and whether it will drop frames though.

There is a program I used to use a lot called Duet Display that worked the other way round - it let's you use your iOS device as an extra screen. That worked via the USB to lightning cable, so presumably it should be possible the other way round, but I've not encountered any solution myself.
