NewsgroupsRT - usenet client

Anyone here using this?

I'm a new SurfacePro owner, couldn't pass up the great deal on the original, and wanted a usenet client. NewsgroupsRT seems to be the only one and while it does work, it is very basic. Frankly that fits my needs/wants just fine.

IF it worked right! :(

For some reason it doesn't get all the new posts in a newsgroup. And there is no 'help' or much in the way of configuring or cleaning up things.

A bit of follow up. NewsgroupsRT has been steadily updated since my first post. It is still a rather light duty reader, but now woks quite well. Today 'hide read' messages was added.

I find it very useful these days.

Seems I'm the only one using Usenet among the forum members.

Today a new update to this app was posted. Two mew things spotted
1. Filters
2. Ability to flag a thread

This app has really matured and now makes for a very nice and powerful Usenet client.

All of my Usenet forums migrated to the web as NNTP became un-securable for the Owner....

Sorry for not asking this earlier. What do you mean by 'un-securable for the Owner'? And why should I care?

While I do participate in non-usenet web forums, and have even used GoogleGroups on occasion, I still participate in quite a few usenet forums, I like the wild and wooly nature of usenet.

NNTP has vulnerabilities that have not been patched, as along as you assume that everything from login to posting is the equivalent of typing in Clear Text then you should be fine....

The protocol pre-dates the internet, NNTP and IRC have really become the last vestiges of what was of the Pre-Berners-Lee Internet, and like many old neighborhoods it has become a scary place that has some really cool clubs and shops but it also its Red-Light Districts, its muggers and thugs :)

Usenet is one of the oldest forms of discussion forums. These days it is probably only used by about 10% of internet users.

You need a newsreader or Usenet client to access it, or use some web interface to it, like Google groups. While some of the discussion forums are moderated, most are not so things can get a bit wild.

There are also binary groups which are seemingly dominated by porn, pirated software, pirated movies and pirated books.
