The article mentions that at the end of the procedure there is an option to delete the recovery partition. What it doesn't say is whether it extends the main partition to use up the freed-up space. If it doesn't (I'll find out soon), you can use the disk management app to do so. Type "disk management" at the Start screen to find this app. To extend a partition, you right-click on it and choose the appropriate action from the context menu.

You will be gaining 5 Gb and the trouble of having to use a USB memory stick whenever you want to restore Windows something that can happen at anytime.

Well, you can always make a few sticks so you can have some redundancy. 5 GB matters to some more than to others, e.g. the i3, 64 GB people after Windows is installed. In any case as soon as Windows 9 comes on the scene will people really want to refresh to 8.1 and go through an upgrade every time?
