Solved Sound issue

Can anyone offer advice on solving my distorted sound issue?

I am using Surface Pro 4, i5 4MB RAM, Windows 10 Pro Version 1511.

When I play sound in my browser, 90% of the time it will be slow and distorted.

It happens
- in Chrome ( version 50.0.2661.102) and Edge.
- with Google Play, Youtube, BBC iPlayer radio, Vimeo etc.
- On Wifi and wired
- docked or undocked

It never happens
- for one particular radio stream (newstalk.com)
- When I use a music player Eg Media player or Groove.

Thanks to anyone who can help or point me to a useful thread.

I can now recreate this issue reliably. If I plug any speaker or headset into the audio socket on the dock, it corrupts the sound. It stays corrupted after unplugging the speaker or headset. Still no fix though.

More info....
I got a new dock. Same problem occurs. This video shows what happens.
1. Sound plays ok on external speakers when plugged into Surface Pro
2. Move jack close to dock - distortion starts.
3. Plug jack into dock - sound is on external speakers and distorted
4. Unplug jack - sound is back on internal speakers and normal
5. Plug jack into Surface Pro - sound is on external speakers and distorted.

I have tried two different speakers, and a headset - all have same problem.
Can anyone help?

I had the same issue like you and here is what solved it for me:

1. Right click on the Speaker icon in the taskbar and select "Playback devices"
2. Select the dock speacker by double click it.
3. Select the advance tab and unchecked the option: "Give exclusive mode application priority."
4. Save and close down. Might have to reboot. Not sure anymore :)

That fixed it for me. Had the same issue with google play and other webbased sound issues. :)

Hope this helps. Let me know if n

Thanks Semi.

I seem to have fixed it by reinstalling Chrome.
Microsoft support said it was a CODEC issue; and for some reason plugging the external speakers into the dock triggered the problem. I must have been mistake about seeing the problem in Edge.
I think this can be marked solved.

Thank you. I read all kinds of threads with all kinds of (mostly unhelpful) solutions. This worked perfectly and your response is the ONLY place I've seen this mentioned. It's really weird that I never set this but the audio from the Dock used to work fine.
