Surface Book loses date and time

When the battery dies, the date and time is lost and has to be set manually.
What causes this? Doesn't the Surface Book include a separate battery for maintaining the system time?

I don't believe that it has a separate battery for the real time clock as there is no way to replace one.

That being said, what are you doing that totally and completely exhausts the battery? The system will normally shut down before the battery is completely exhausted and the remaining battery should keep the RTC running for a long time.

The battery just dies on its own because it either fails to shut down properly when closed and put in a bag or wakes up the bag and drains the battery until it's empty.

Even after the updates? Mine hasn't done that since maybe January.
I hate to say it but I would scrub the hard disk and restore the OS.
Or at minimum set it to hibernate or something.

I must be lucky because my battery has never died while my SB is in the bag. The battery may drain to about 20 minutes for a full charge when plugged in after.
