Surface Pro 8 - Gyro issues?

Bought a Surface Pro 8 from a local vendor. Worked fine for a while. A day or so, it started misbehaving. Keyboard wouldn't work. Removing the keyboard and rotating the screen didn't work. I seemed to me that as the unit got warmer, things misbehaved.

One of the things I discovered that was weird was when I had the keyboard connected, and turned the unit upside down (picture trying to use the unit on your back), the keyboard would operate correctly. However, sitting up, the keyboard would stop working.

I left the unit sit for several days. We're now typing on the keyboard and using the touchpad. I'm interested to see what happens when the unit warms up.

I suspect the gyro is either confused, or getting stuck. I attempted to remove it from the device manager, and reboot to allow the system to re-detect it. It found it, but this did not correct the behavior.

Is the gyro something that is replacable? If so where can I find one for a Surface Pro 8? If not, is Microsoft still servicing Surface Pro 8 machines?

Before we dive into more specific testing of the gyroscope, let's get a look at the firmware versions in UEFI to make sure everything is up to date. Some of the firmware modules participate in the sensor chain that determines posture, orientation, and ultimately whether Windows decides the Type Cover should be active.

Boot into UEFI

1. Shut down your Surface and wait about 10 seconds to ensure it is off.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up button on your Surface.
3. While holding Volume Up, press and release the Power button.
4. Continue holding Volume Up until the UEFI screen appears, then release it.
