Surface Pro 9 touchpad clicks/gestures not working – tried almost everything

Hi, I’m having a very frustrating problem with the keyboard/touchpad on my Surface Pro 9 (Intel Core i5) and I haven’t been able to fix it.

The touchpad detects my finger and the pointer moves, but several functions have stopped working properly:

• Left click does not work normally.
• Right click does not work.
• I cannot click and drag/select text or files.
• Two-finger scrolling does not work.
• Double-tap/double-click on the touchpad does not work properly.
• Changing the touchpad sensitivity does not solve the problem.

The keyboard itself seems to work, so the main issue appears to be the touchpad/click functionality.

This started recently, around 23 August, and I’m currently using Windows 11 Insider Preview.

So far I have tried:

• Restarting the Surface several times.
• Checking all the touchpad settings in Windows.
• Enabling/disabling different touchpad gestures.
• Changing touchpad sensitivity, including setting it to maximum sensitivity.
• Checking the Surface HID Touchpad driver/device.
• Trying Windows Update.
• Installing the latest Surface Pro 9 driver/firmware package manually from Microsoft.
• Using the Surface app to check the device.
• Trying System Restore.
• Looking for an older restore point, but there weren’t any useful previous restore points available.
• Trying to roll back Windows, but Windows says: “This option is no longer available on this PC.”
• Installing/reinstalling the available Windows updates.

My current Windows version is an Insider Preview build (26300.x), and I have also recently had updates such as the Windows 11 Insider Preview Quality Update and .NET Framework updates.

Even after reinstalling the Surface drivers/firmware, the problem is exactly the same.

Has anyone experienced this on a Surface Pro 9?

Could this be caused by a recent Windows Insider update, or does it sound like a hardware problem with the Surface keyboard/touchpad?

Is there anything else I can try before reinstalling Windows completely or replacing the keyboard?
