Surface RT frozen at login and won't power down

received Surface RT for Christmas, has frozen several times in apps but this time cannot get it to power off.
help!

Hold down the power button for 20 seconds it should do a "force shut down" then press the power button to re-open the tablet

Make sure you do a full Windows Update to get the latest updates and patches from Microsoft - should fix these sort of issues.

From the 'charms bar' go to settings, then click the link for 'PC Settings' In the app, goto the 'Update and Recovery' section, then click on 'Check Now' in the right hand side to check for updates - do a full install of all updates and firmware updates.

It's a good idea to leave Windows Update set to automatic updates - new firmware and patches come out monthly! Otherwise, make a note in your diary to check for updates manually every month!
