Tiles changing size and stacking level automatically

This wierd behavior just started after I got the new power cover (related?). Sometimes my tiles are stacked 4 high and sometimes 3 high (with the 3 high having larger tiles, of course). This happens suddenly when I turn on the device. It is not consistant. This morning, I turned it on (not restarted) and it was suddenly stacked 4 high. Just now, I rebooted and it is now 3 high. Has anyone else seen this behavior? I am using the Surface Pro 1. Everything else is working well.

Do you know how to change this setting? You have to swipe in from the Start Screen and go to options I think... I have no idea why it would be jumping like that though. Perhaps try setting it to a different option and see how it behaves.
