Virus protection

I am new to this. What kind of virus protection comes with the Surface Pro 4 I purchased yesterday? Do I need to purchase protection from a 3rd party?

Windows Defender is standard on all Windows 10 devices, if you want more that all depends on your habits and practices...use the Search Function of the forum and we have a couple of very good threads on the subject.

Defender is a decent AV. Personally I use Norton.

I've been using the free version of Avast for years now. Low overhead & low maintenance.
