Is there a way to check the serial number of a computer to check if it is stollen or rebuilt?

I don't know of a way, @kanueh . But if you are in contact with a seller, you might ask him to video conference with you and show the computer booting up and working, including a view of the serial number.

I have the reverse question: I registered my Surface Pro 4 at Microsoft, but I would like to report it stolen to Microsoft because future users have to go there for software updates (I did report it to the police). By the way coincidence: it was stolen in China (at Shanghai airport). Advice: check that the video output port is properly functioning: mine was broken after nearly a year and repairing is not possible (I used Wireless Display Adapter since).
