UK S3 owners - sound problems on iPlayer downloads?

As per the title - I get little pops and crackles on HD downloads from iPlayer - but not from other HD sources (Sky Go, Netflix etc). This seems almost certainly a codec issue - but I haven't seen anyone else mention it (yet). Am I alone?

How are you downloading them? If you tell me your routine, apps used etc, i can certainly try it myself for you (although granted it will be under windows 10)

Just using the BBC iPlayer app and the downloader that it prompts you to install. Have tried it on a couple of HD sources - this one for example:

(not a fan, it was just short to test)

You need to listen for a minute or two before you start hearing it. After 5 mins or so, it becomes unbearable (I don't mean it gets worse, it just becomes impossible to listen to!)
