Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

Using the upgrade feature from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO I updated my SP3. Created an ISO and installed fresh copy on my main laptop. Both are working perfectly, Now doing a clean install on my SP3. Will do a clean install on my other laptop and HTPC sometime later.

Sounds good to me. I've a win 7 pro license sat waiting to get taken back home with me and installed on my main computer

Reading the threads on this forum alone, it seems that half the new 10 users actually have a problem, and then other half are just crying because Microsoft somehow had the audacity to change something. It reads like these people expected windows 10 to just be windows 8 with a different number..

Tis a very odd situation. It's working just fine on both my SP3 and S3 (one via leaked ISO one via MS Update). I say just fine, slideshow still doesn't work making the thing pretty worthless to me. I'm still sticking to FastStone for the time being.

Define "have to". So far as I was aware Insiders did not have to do anything. Your device will just continue updating as new updates are made available. I don't think there is any difference between what Insiders are running and what people who've got the official 8.1 to 10 upgrade this morning have.

Via the downloadtool you have the option to decide between the Home and the Pro version. Am i allowed to use the Pro version with the SP3 licence?

I'm not sure what download tool you are talking about. I've never encountered it :/ Certainly not from within the technical preview.

To answer the question though, all upgrades are like for like. So because the surface pro 3 came with windows 8.1 Pro, you get to upgrade to windows 10 pro, and the Surface 3 comes with windows 8.1 home, so it upgrades to windows 10 home.

Not sure what the differences are between the download options: Windows 10, Windows 10 KN, Windows 10 N, and Windows 10 Single Language.

Yes, the SP3 has a pro version of Windows 8.1, so the Pro version of Windows 10 is the proper version to download.
