Read a great article (that was written in cooperation with developers from the Windows storage team) about setting the record straight in regards to Window's treatment for disk optimization.

Passing this along, because I've read through some conflicting opinions on this topic in this forum...the end result is that it's best to leave the hard disk optimization set to it's default setting. Windows is managing this for you effectively for the type of disk in use...
