How does our new Surface RT get registered?

Got my wife one for her birthday two weeks ago. I have not used it, but she tells me that in her initial use of the machine that no screens have popped up asking for registration information.
Machine has been trouble free, but do wish to become officially registered just in case. Does anyone know what to do to trigger this registration screen (if that's what it is)?

Use your Microsoft account to sign in at myservice.surface.com - this site allows you to register your Surface product, Touch & Type covers, and allows you to submit service requests in future if your device ever develops a fault (very good service I found). Also, you can use this website to check your warranty in future, and extend it if you wish with an extended service plan (ESP).
