Microsoft sells 40 million windows 8 licenses in a month, outpaces windows 7 upgrades

Microsoft (MSFT) has sold 40 million licenses of its Windows 8 operating system after only one month of availability. Tami Reller, the company’s newly-promoted head of Windows, announced the news at the Credit Suisse 2012 Annual Technology Conference on Tuesday. The executive also revealed that Windows 8 is outpacing Windows 7 in terms of upgrades and that the company’s Windows Store launched with more first-day apps than any other app store.

This is what I expect to be the trend for Windows 8. It is not Vista part 2 and should have great market success as more people use Windows Phones, Windows tablets and either upgrade Windows or buy new machines with Windows 8 installed. PC sales are generally slower than in the past but Windows 8 should have similar success to Windows 7 in terms of deployment. Like any new version of Windows it just needs some exposure before it really gets rolling and three platforms offers plenty of exposure.
