surface 2 and connecting to tv

I'm struggling to get my surface 2 to play any videos via the hdmi cable as the resolution is too low on my HD TV, has anyone found a TV that does allow the apps to run, possibly the new 4k ultra HD TVs?

It doesn't need to be that high. I'm pretty sure I did it on a 26" 720p set but that TV died so I'm not positive of the resolution and I don't have it anymore.

What's the resolution of your set?

I have no problem playing videos on my LG 46" smart TV using my RT and a HDMI cable. The RT has lower resolution than the Surface 2. The Surface video app fills the screen.
