touch keyboard question

Are we supposed to be able to perform the little keyboard tricks (like double spacing to insert a period, and auto-capitalizing the first letter of new sentences) with the touch (or type) cover attached? I know they all work with the device's virtual keyboard, but I cannot get the touch keyboard to do any of this. Apparently someone at Microsoft though I should be able to, because they authorized my sending it back to MS for replacement. Well, the replacement came this morning,
and same exact situation.

That only works with the OSK, the Touch and Type Covers at the end of the day are just like any other physical keyboard.
