Hi all. I'm a new member to the forums, and a new Surface RT owner. I love everything about the Surface so far, but I'm having trouble with some of the audio playback options. I am a student, and I do transcribing for a prof. On my old laptop, I ran Windows Media Player to listen to the conversations I had to transcribe. The Surface uses the Xbox app, which is fine, except that it doesn't seem to have a "playback speed" mode. Which is kind of important for my work. I'm wondering a few things, 1) is there a "playback" mode on the Xbox app and I just can't find it. 2) is there a better app out there that I could install (preferably free, 'cause I'm a student) or 3) is there some way to get Windows Media Player on the RT?

There are voice recorders in the Store, many are free. When the 8.1 is released on the 17th of October there will be a built in recorder.

I don't need a recorder, I have DAT for that. What I need though, is something on the RT that will play back what I have, but also let me slow down the playback speed. As the Xbox app doesn't let me do that.

Ah, that wasn't clear in the original post. I would test a few of the media players available in the Store and see if there is a solution.

Here is an example of one possible solution (I haven't used it): Fast Media Player app for Windows in the Windows Store

Make sure you search for media players in general and not just audio, as most media players support multiple audio formats as well.
