Woooppsss ... I think I see. You are using One Drive to " couple " them. They aren't being " coupled " electronically ... you just use One Drive for file storage which make them available to all computers on your network.

Correct, OneDrive is how she connects the phone to the rest of her devices.

@Arizona Willie - you can do all that through the cloud, but you can also hook your phone up by USB to your SP3 and you can sync it, or use it as a media device etc., manually if you want - at least, I can do that with my GN3, and I believe you can do it with most smartphones.
